Kirsty's Oxfam Challenge Page

One day I had a crazy idea to ride around in the heat and humidity of Laos for what I believe to be a good cause.
I am participating in an Oxfam Challenge. Part of the Challenge is to raise a minimum of $5000. The money goes towards a cycling trip in Laos visiting Oxfam projects, and to Oxfam Australia to help fund their programs.
This page gives details on the Challenge, my progress towards the fundraising target and tracks my fitness training for the trip to Laos.

I went to the gym tonight, to get my fitness training back on track.
It was over 35C when I first went in, so I switched on the air conditioners. When I went back it was still 32C, and the temperature only dropped to 28C in the 40 minutes that I was in there!

I guess it's good acclimatisation for the trip.

We had a lightning storm up here a few nights ago. The picture shows the fire behind a nearby plant. I took that photo standing in the corner of the site, near our accommodation.

Well, the training can finally start in earnest. I bought a bicycle today! Plus a few bits and pieces to go with it, including a pair of padded lycra shorts. I've been told by a few people that I will need those.

As you can see, there I am with bike and lycra and in need of some training.
We all have to start somewhere!
