Kirsty's Oxfam Challenge Page

One day I had a crazy idea to ride around in the heat and humidity of Laos for what I believe to be a good cause.
I am participating in an Oxfam Challenge. Part of the Challenge is to raise a minimum of $5000. The money goes towards a cycling trip in Laos visiting Oxfam projects, and to Oxfam Australia to help fund their programs.
This page gives details on the Challenge, my progress towards the fundraising target and tracks my fitness training for the trip to Laos.

The numbers are in for the Chocoholics Evening. We raised $397.71, just short of a round figure!
The money raised from this event, as well as the money I have received recently from the fundraising freddos out in Perth workplaces has taken my fundraising total into four digits!!

Thank you to everyone for their support so far along the campaign trail.

Chocoholics Evening

Last night saw 25 chocolate lovers indulge in a smorgasbord of Chocolate laden treats! My first fundraising event went well! I am happy that it was such a positive event, and everyone seemed to be interested in supporting me in my Oxfam Challenge.

We raised over $300 from the evening! I will give a final accounting once all costs are in.

Click here for more details on the night and photos.

I am hoping to organise a movie night for the next event. I will keep everyone posted on details as I get them and as it is organised. I hope that you all can make it!

It looks like my coach finally has broadband internet access!! Brad's had a few words to say on my training... maybe I shouldn't have invited him to the Chocoholics Night, I can picture him now keeping track of every piece of sugar laden treat that passes my lips...

To hear what he has to say, click here. I have added a link to the side also for future reference to my coach's words of wisdom.

For those of you with a little knowledge of cycling, please have a look at the page. Brad has invited an open forum on cycling and fitness and the common goal of watching me sweat!

For people curious to read what the trip I am going on will be like, click here for an article on the recent Oxfam Challenge to China.

It sounds amazing, inspiring, physically challenging, fantastic, awesome...

I definitely need to start training.

A reminder about the CHOCOHOLICS EVENING fundraiser this Saturday night! Email me for details if you'd like to come along. Recipe books of the chocolate goodies on offer for the evening are available for purchase. Please order!

Me again!

Greetings from sunny CS1... well, sometimes it is sunny and hot, at the moment it is cloudy and hot, and yesterday it was windy and hot.
The photo shows you how tough it is up here.

I'm excited. My first fundraising event is this Saturday! I am looking forward to it... chocolate cookies, muffins, mousse - yum!

My fundraising total is past $500! Thank you so much to all of you who have donated. I was pleasantly surprised when I received an update of the donations made through the Oxfam Australia webpage. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

Details and updates on my fundraising activities and how to donate can be found by clicking here or on the link to right.

My fundraising tally is off the ground! Two complete boxes of chocolates have sold. Yay!

Well, I found the gym up here on site, and have started on my training program. See my Training page for details. I went for a stroll in the park and a short cycle. It's a starting point, and better than sitting on my backside in front of a computer... hang on, that's what I am doing now!

My coach has also said he'll write a "Coaches' Corner" page for me, so that you can see his side of the training story.

Yes, I have a coach! That's almost professional of me :) My mate Brad, who I met a few years ago now in Port Hedland when we were working up there one summer, knows a couple of things about bicycles and has kindly offered to give me some tips, and maybe even some fashion advice on what kind of lycra to buy.

Watch out for the link to the right, soon to join the others.

Hiya! I have received some feedback on the boxes of chocolates from a few friends, and they're selling well... so sounds like things are up and running. So exciting!
Also some of my friends have offered alternative fundraising ideas, so I will see how inspired I get.

I am now up on site, so I will have to try to make friends with the gym here and build up some fitness. I guess I can start on the exercise bike and just ride to nowhere :)
I have been doing a lot of kilometres lately, but unfortunately they've been in a Toyota Landcruiser.

I have been bike shopping a couple of times now, and almost feel ready to commit myself to something. I'm itching to start riding around Perth and reacquaint myself with those crazy Perth drivers - from another angle. It's bad enough watching them try to merge on the freeway, and on a bike I have a lot less armouring around me than when I am in a vehicle!

The fundraising has started. I just submitted my order form for chocolates, hopefully to be delivered this week and I can start my fundraising tally. Woohoo!!
A few of my friends have offered to help sell them for me, which is FANTASTIC. I feel special to have so many wonderful friends.
