Kirsty's Oxfam Challenge Page

One day I had a crazy idea to ride around in the heat and humidity of Laos for what I believe to be a good cause.
I am participating in an Oxfam Challenge. Part of the Challenge is to raise a minimum of $5000. The money goes towards a cycling trip in Laos visiting Oxfam projects, and to Oxfam Australia to help fund their programs.
This page gives details on the Challenge, my progress towards the fundraising target and tracks my fitness training for the trip to Laos.

I finally started cycling. Woohoo!
In a fit of enthusiasm I went cycling yesterday morning, and then yesterday evening. The morning was more of a leisurely stroll, then Coach Brad and I went a little further afield, with a few more hills. They're going to kill me, but I expect to encounter a few on the trip so it will be good training.
Today I think I will go for a walk to make sure that my muscles still work. And maybe soak in the bath.

Well, I have just smashed through the $3000 mark!! So I am now over 60% of the way to the target. Thanks to everyone so far for their support.
I have decided that I will absorb the extra trip cost mentioned in my last post, so my fundraising target will remain the same at $5000.

I went for a run yesterday for the first time in two months! It felt yucky but I am sure that it will improve with time.
There is no site work for me in the near future - at least that I know about! - so I have no excuses not to get into cycling and acclimatising myself to sitting on a bicycle seat.
Those cross trainer things that they had on site are not really my cup of tea. I like being outdoors and running around in the open spaces!

The cycle trip departure has been confirmed, however we are low on participants and my fundraising target has jumped up a little bit as a result!
There are always new challenges just around the corner :)

Tonight was Borat night. There were 124 people through the doors, and the evening made $1086! The movie was very funny, and definitely a fascinating look at American culture.

The movie-lovers raffle, with prize of a double pass to the Luna Palace cinemas and snacks for the movie, was won by accountant Allan. There was some confusion before the movie about the identity of Allan, and he remained a mystery until we spotted him under the traffic lights. For those of you who saw my sister before the movie walking up and down the aisle of the cinema calling his name, she wasn't looking for her seat but the man who won the prize!

With chocolates and donations, my fundraising total now stands at just under $3000. I am more than halfway to the target! I would love to smash it.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along to the movies.
